Samantha winced. "Sorry," she told the second owl after reopening the
window. He glared back, then flew up to the sill and hopped inside.

"Open the letter, Heath," his mother urged him, smiling proudly as she
stood at the window.

His father Collin looked on with interest as he cut the birthday cake.
"What does it say?" he asked.
