As Dot's concentration split, the Ether seemed to almost fragment
momentarily, but came back into focus as she did.
She whinced as her focus returned to the Ether
"I can't switch as easily as you can right now," Asha said. "And as soon as
you are jacked in, you won't be able to either. So I hope that distracting
Suhuy wasn't a necessity to what you did."
"It might be, but I think this is important."
"And I know you can go faster," Asha continued, her voice full of
confidence in her charge. "Even through the induction link, you did more
than 90% of the users that are passing us would ever dream of being able to
do. You showed an instinctive understanding of the underlying concepts
that is positively amazing."
"You don't understand now... But you will soon."
Dot gave Asha a look. One that said 'maybe, but you don't either.'
"So what was it that you needed?" she finished, looking at Dot askew.
"Has anyone ever attuned to a plantaxy while in the ether?"
Asha looked at Dot with a look akin to shock. Her avatar lost a bit of
coherence before she regained her composure. "So," she finally said when
she could speak again, "Bellpit is in the Enclaves."
She shook her head. "I don't know much about the Enclaves- only what Rook
has told me. I know even less about plantaxy- he was disturbingly vague
about it. But from what he told me, you want to be very careful with
anything you do with one here."
"I don't know how much Suhuy told you about Cyberia, but there is a
delineation between Cyberia and the Wastelands that is rabidly guarded by-
something," she said, shrugging. "I don't know what it is, but I do know
that it controls orbital KillSats in low orbit that agressively target any
signs that anyone is meddling with reality. The Bleed seems to have
confused it somewhat- I've been able to do things that I would never have
attempted before with no signs of detection."
As she talked, it was hard for Dot to keep up- the words were sped up just a
bit, her voice a little higher pitched than normal.
"But, I don't relish finding out what actually utilizing a plantaxy would
do. I have too many people here that I'm responsible for to take the chance
of an orbital laser targetting this facility," she finished, looking at Dot
gravely.
