"Program Integrity 35%, Download 8% done."
Dot's hands and mind flew through the code. It was a synergy that produced
an efficiency unrivalled in the real world, except perhaps in walking
shadows. The Ether seemed to have a lot in common with shadow, but there
were limitations that she experienced here that she would not have run into
there. Part of her struggle was finding these limitations and working
around them.
"Program Integrity 30%, Download 13% done."
Time seemed to be against her. Though it was obvious that her work was
having an effect, it just seemed like too little, too late. The download
rate was increasing, but the microTaurs were tearing too much from her
Daemon. Horns gored, sinewed thews ripped, and bits flowed. The Daemon was
having trouble maintaining it's icon at this point.
"Program Integrity 25%, Download 21% done."
Dot had done almost all that she could. The data flow was unimpeded and
gaining strength with each passing moment, so she was helpless to do
anything but watch the numbers scroll by. Still she worked, but it was more
to do all that she could, than for any practical gain.
"Program Integrity 20%, Download 34% done."
The numbers scrolled more quickly now, as her daemon's defenses were fully
penetrated, it's demise almost assured.
"Program Integrity 15%, Download 55% done."
"Program Integrity 10%, Download 89% done."
"Program Integrity 5%, Download Complete."
The message blinked in her interface, even as the daemon and the minotaurs
faded from existence. With no preamble, the port opened before Dot as the
downloaded passcode gained her access...
Dot blinked. It felt... anticlimactic. She then shrugged and entered the
port.
