	The cry brought Pamela to a sudden halt; she had to grab the bannister 
to keep from falling head-over-heels down the remaining stairs. She 
pushed herself upright. "Mum?" she called, at the unmistakable sound of 
her mother's descent. "Mum, go back. Stay upstairs. I'll be fine; you 
just go back."
