"Hi," said Cyrus, closer to whispering than speaking. He gave them his name and busily stuck his reddening face in a book. On the seat next to him was a smallish cage with a cover over it.

Amber then replied to Kayden, "No she's OK...
 I think. She's never met an rat before, but usually when I do I'm supposed to whack it with a broom or my Grandmother will scream." 

Amber reached out toward the rat, "Can I hold him?"
Kadyn hesitated, then handed Hesetu to her. "I guess. His name is Hesetu."

Amber held her hands out as Kadyn placed the rodent in her palm. She was a little startled by the claws, but knew he wasn't hurting her. He was so small and light. How could her grandmother have been scared of these little guys? She gave him back. "He's brilliant" 

"Thanks." He placed him back on the seat. Kadyn then looked towards the cage next to Cyrus. "What's that?"

Cyrus's book lowered far enough for the others to see most of his face, which was still a little flushed. "It's my owl," he said. "His name's Barnaby."
