"How much have you sheltered this girl, Pumpkin?" Paul asked his
daughter.  "You should have explained it to her better."

"It's because she works too hard," Julie's mother griped from her spot
at the counter where she was washing vegetables.  "The poor girl never
sees her mama."

"Mother!" Julie cried in frustration.  "You know how things are.  I
will NOT have this argument with you again.  This is Paloma's day."

She turned to her daughter.  "Isn't it, sweetie?  We'll go into Diagon
Alley and get all your supplies and set you up at Hogwarts just as you
were always meant to be."
