"History." Suhuy trundled over to where Dot lay, looking over the work on
her body with a detached interest. "How long this has been going on. What
he's seen. What he knows. Can't get my fingers around a cloud without it."
He looked up, his dark eyes focusing on some point well beyond the room. "I
could go looking for him... Dot and I could! And Master, if he =must= come."

+++++

Mandor simply looked at him.

To Asha, he said, "This ... Rook. Dod he have some other name? Some other
identity?" There was a sharpness in his tone.

Asha returned his look for a long moment before replying.

Finally she nodded, slowly. "Yes. But I don't know if it's mine to give.
He has enemies. Especially now." Her eyes narrowed as she looked at Mandor.

"And I don't know you."

Mandor shrugged. "It's possible that I might know him. I once knew a lot
of people ... people like Rook. Like Dot. Like you ...

"It's possible that I Rook was my enemy. It's also possible that he was my
friend." His dark eyes were fixed on her. "It's not impossible that he's
my brother."

Asha returned his gaze, before shifting uncomfortably to regard Grey. A
small shrug of his shoulders is all that he had to offer her. She sighed.
"No. I'd think not your brother."

She looked at Dot for a long moment, then to Suhuy, as if trying to mentally
connect dots between the trio- wondering about their relationship. Then she
looked back to Mandor.

"A long time ago, Rook told me that you can never trust anyone, especially
not family. I responded that I hoped I'd never get that cynical." A wry
grin stole across her face at the memory. Sighing she closed her eyes, as
if trying to contain the image that had brought her a fleeting happiness,
and her eyebrows beetled at the effort, before she finally opened them
again. Sighing sadly, she said, "Martin. Rook's real name is Martin."

Mandor's face was impassive. "Then he is not my brother. But he was my
brother's friend. When you see him ... you will tell him that we have been
here. It might give him ... hope. And it might also answer certain
questions ... and probably pose many more."

He glanced at Suhuy and Dot.

"What experiments will you need to run here?"
