It appeared that some sort of decision would have to be made soon, for
though the bulk of the combat seemed to be far enough from them that being
embroiled in the combat was not an issue, the cracks of the shots were
getting closer.  They estimated that if they could crest the debris
scattered hill in front of them, they would actually see the combat raging.

Of course, the combatants would probably be able to see them also...

   A low whistling sound ended with screaming in the distance as Dot gave
the matter thought.  "What about walking in the direction that doesn't cause
injury? Is anyone fighting over there?  Will it get us closer to the city?"
Dot was still looking at the extinguisher, but in a distant way...
